German Fuel Cell Company EKPO Partners with YC Synergy to Advance Hydrogen Applications Worldwide

German fuel cell company EKPO has signed a collaboration agreement with YC Synergy, combining their expertise in metallic fuel cell stacks and system development to drive the proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) market forward. Under this agreement, both parties will engage in deep technical and product development collaborations, as well as market cooperation, significantly improving product lifespan and stack power density. This effort will also effectively reduce system product costs by utilizing standardized designs to meet applications ranging from 100 kW to multi-MW levels. Leveraging EKPO’s global sales resources, YC Synergy will serve as a joint system development partner, providing system application solutions to end customers in collaboration with EKPO.

EKPO, headquartered in Dettingen/Erms, Germany, is a joint venture between renowned automotive component suppliers ElringKlinger(Germany) and Plastic Omnium (France). Building on the century-old industrial expertise of its parent companies, EKPO specializes in advanced metallic bipolar plate fuel cell stack technology and has large-scale production capabilities.

YC Synergy is one of the few Taiwanese manufacturers specializing in high-power fuel cell systems. The company has a proven track record in vehicle, marine, and power station applications. YC Synergy possesses complete in-house fuel cell system development capabilities and expertise in downstream engineering and application integration. It has successfully developed, certified, and deployed systems for urban buses, medium-duty trucks, ferries, yachts, and industrial byproduct hydrogen power stations domestically and internationally. YC Synergy also offers a range of hydrogen-related products and engineering services, including electrolytic hydrogen production (green hydrogen), high-pressure hydrogen storage, and byproduct hydrogen purification.

Kai Chang, head of the Power Division at YC Synergy, stated that the company has accumulated over 12 years of hydrogen energy experience and has collaborated long-term with multiple global fuel cell stack suppliers. In addition to its carbon-based stack product line, YC Synergy is now introducing metallic stack products. EKPO, inheriting its parent companies’ century-long expertise in metal processing, possesses world-class fuel cell technology with outstanding performance, cost efficiency, and durability. Both companies are among the few independent fuel cell stack and system developers globally, with complementary strengths and significant potential for collaboration in technology, products, and market expansion.

Kai Chang emphasized that the hydrogen energy sector is growing rapidly, and the current supply chain has struggled to adapt. This presents a prime opportunity for the partnership, allowing both companies to join forces in entering the global market and creating a win-win scenario.
