Hydrogen-Powered Vessel “Star of Hope”
Introduction
The “Star of Hope” measures approximately 17 meters in length and is approved to carry over 90 passengers. Designed as a catamaran, it significantly reduces sailing resistance. It is equipped with two 40kW induction electric motors, powered by a high-voltage system above 300V, combined with a high-efficiency transmission system designed by YC Synergy. The vessel can reach a speed of 10 knots, and it can cruise at 6 knots for over 8 hours. Additionally, the vessel’s roof is fitted with solar panels that supply power to the low-voltage systems during the daytime.
The vessel features a hybrid power system designed by YC Synergy, combining fuel cells and lithium batteries. It utilizes Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) fuel cell technology, offering quick start-up, low-temperature operation (around 80°C), long lifespan, and suitability for multiple start-stop operations. This system is complemented by YC Synergy’s specially designed load-following capabilities, providing rapid load response. The lithium batteries use lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) chemistry, working in tandem with the fuel cells to deliver high power output and extended cruising range.
