Star of Hope uses a catamaran design, or twin hulls, to reduce water resistance and expand the deck space for accommodating up to 90 passengers, which is the largest fuel cell passenger ferry in Asia. The power train includes 2 sets of 40KW motors operating simultaneously at over 300 Volt power, and with YCS’s transmission design, the ferry can reach over 10 knots. At 6 knots cruising speed, the running time can last for over 8 hours. Furthermore, this boat is also equipped with solar panel as an auxiliary power for the light-current system.
YCS’ powertrain has dual power source, fuel cell and Li battery. The PEM Fuel Cell that YCS uses in the powertrain solution has several advantages: fast start-up, low reaction temperature (<80 degree C), long life, and excellent for repetitive start-stop operation. Integrated with YCS’ fast power demand responding system, the fuel cell can provide needed power in time. With LiFe battery, the solution can provide high power output and long cruising range.
